I had the ability to vote in the last election, but I didn't the only reason I didn't vote is because I didn't believe that my vote counted or actually would make a difference as I felt the winner was decided before election day. I know about half of you that read this will say that's a dumb reason not to vote and you might be right, but that was four years ago and now four years later I can vote and come November I will be voting. The difference between this years election and the 2012 election is:
- I actually care this year and think that my vote could actually mean something to the person that I vote for on the ballot. Though I am aware that my vote has a limited importance to most of the candidates due to well me being one person, but put that all aside I'm still okay with voting and ready to vote in my first election.
- On the other front my change in attitude is probably due to the fact that unlike four years ago I am a lot more informed then I was and actually a little more interested then I was four years ago. I actually have opinions on the candidates and know more then just what other people are telling me. I have the ability to carry on knowledgeable and cohesive coversations about politics for the first time and it's feels very different.
The point of this post wasn't to talk about feelings it was to display something that a lot of other teenagers and people in general are guilty of and that's not being informed then using that as a reason not to vote. Being more informed isn't an excuse when all the information is right at your finger tips and though the system maybe broken it's up to us to find someone willing and able to fix it. Not voting would have the opposite effect on the attempts to fix this country. Though it's many months away take this time to think are going to vote come November 8th and if not take this time to think about why and if it's worth not having at least a small say in who takes over the White House next January.
