Entitlement Makes Me Sick Part 1

Facts of Life:
  • You're not guaranteed anything in this life that does include: a good job, a cell phone, internet access, a good education, making lots of money.
  • A driver's licence is a privilege and not a right much like a cell phone both can be taken away without so much as a second thought.
  • Some skills are meant to be taught and passed down and not learned. Independence is good, but dependence is needed sometimes to really learn something.
  • Hard work isn't a bad thing

Now don't get me wrong it is difficult to pinpoint which generation is exactly the entitlement generation, but what I do know is at least one person would say "Stop acting like your 40 cause your not." They'd be right I'm not 40 and I am actually in my early 20's, but I was raised that credit is given and respect is earned. Then I look around I wonder where is the respect, where is the hard working people this country used to be known for, and where is the idea that instant gratification isn't everything.

In my other writings I love going back in time, because I love to talk about history and this time is no different. Let's go back in time to the 80's or 90's did kids then act even way similar to the way kids act now. No, why because kids then knew what Respect meant and knew that Working Hard to get something wasn't a bad thing, but was a right of passage. As time passed somewhere along the line everything changed and now the idea of Respect and Working Hard to earn things seem to be terrible phrases to utter. Well I hate to break it to you they aren't and everything in life requires HARD WORK as nobody said life would be easy. Now it's time for a wake up call!!!

Note:
I'll go as far with this as you the reader wants me to as I have a lot of ammo and no other filter to get it out. So the amount of parts to this "series" and I use that term very loss is totally up to you.

The Outlook From My End

I may not be the wisest of the butch or the most politically correct person you'll ever met, but through hell or high water I will take advantage of the freedoms given to us by the first amendment of the Bill of Rights and that is Freedom of Expression and Freedom of Speech. In my last post to end it I said that I would respect your opinion if you were able to respect mine and can understand that not everyone will agree with your opinion. Now before I start to jump into talking about some of the issues that I mentioned last time I wanted to give a little bit of a background on myself.

I had the ability to vote in the last election, but I didn't the only reason I didn't vote is because I didn't believe that my vote counted or actually would make a difference as I felt the winner was decided before election day. I know about half of you that read this will say that's a dumb reason not to vote and you might be right, but that was four years ago and now four years later I can vote and come November I will be voting. The difference between this years election and the 2012 election is:

  1. I actually care this year and think that my vote could actually mean something to the person that I vote for on the ballot. Though I am aware that my vote has a limited importance to most of the candidates due to well me being one person, but put that all aside I'm still okay with voting and ready to vote in my first election.

  2. On the other front my change in attitude is probably due to the fact that unlike four years ago I am a lot more informed then I was and actually a little more interested then I was four years ago. I actually have opinions on the candidates and know more then just what other people are telling me. I have the ability to carry on knowledgeable and cohesive coversations about politics for the first time and it's feels very different.

The point of this post wasn't to talk about feelings it was to display something that a lot of other teenagers and people in general are guilty of and that's not being informed then using that as a reason not to vote. Being more informed isn't an excuse when all the information is right at your finger tips and though the system maybe broken it's up to us to find someone willing and able to fix it. Not voting would have the opposite effect on the attempts to fix this country. Though it's many months away take this time to think are going to vote come November 8th and if not take this time to think about why and if it's worth not having at least a small say in who takes over the White House next January.

Open Our Eyes

2016 is the year for everything to change because the amount of people that are actually paying attention to politics this year is incredible. Never before has an election year that remembered garnered so much media attention. But there is a difference between being informed and just paying attention due to the fact that you like one idea. With the amount of information we have at our finger tips these days it is hard to believe that so many of us are so backwardly informed on topics that actually matter. Topics like safety, the economy, veterans, and various other topics that are far too many to list.

However, I am at the point where I actually fed up being uninformed and being a sheep that is just happy with not knowing anything. The ability to have knowledgeable conversations on a variety of topics allows you to have conversations with a wider variety of people. For the longest time people have been living in the dark like myself and we shouldn't accept not knowing as a good thing anymore. If we have the time to look up the latest issues with Johnny Manziel then why don't we have time to know about our veterans or threats to our safety or problems with the economy. The reason is because of the fact that we are controlled and are okay with it.

I'm not saying that we need to change the political landscape of this country that's not the problem the problem is that so many people have remained misinformed for so long even though the real information is right in front of them. I've reached the point where I really can't express my opinion on certain topics due to fear of others and them misunderstanding my opinion and my words. So please just think about this until my next post: I'll respect your opinion if you are able to respect mine, because I accept not everyone will agree with me and you should be able to do the same.
